What SEER means
SEER is a cooling efficiency rating: how much cooling a system delivers for each unit of electricity it uses. Higher is more efficient. New systems are rated in SEER2, a stricter test of the same idea.
-
Why it matters here
In the Valley, the AC runs most of the year. The more hours a system runs, the more each point of efficiency is worth on your power bill.
-
The simple math
Electricity use falls in proportion to the rating. A 20 SEER system uses half the electricity of a 10 SEER system to deliver the same cooling.
